SpongeBob's Atlantis Squarepantis - Review

SpongeBob's Atlantis Squarepantis - DS
Ages: Everyone

Well – its pared down from the PS2. It is basically the cave adventure, finding pieces of the medallion, collecting shells. SpongeBob has the special ability to float and Patrick is super strong. The roles are reversed from the PS2 version in that it is SpongeBob who gets Patrick across chasms. While jumping and fending off jellyfish that look like stools, there are many items to pick up; everything from the spatula of SpongeBob to sheet music, jewels and shells. The opening menu is a map on the top screen, and selections are made by wandering to different areas - unusual. The touch screen is used for menu selection, changing between characters, using the camera and the magnifying glass. The camera is used to find the best jump off spot, the magnifying glass to get close-up views of the levers and cranks that need to be maneuvered. But the game is played basically with the control pad and the buttons.

Fun Factor: What would replace jumping in games? The action commences to get boring.
Player Friendly: No saves mid level - not nice.
